The Fullerton Hotel Singapore Review - Premier Courtyard Room

Build-in 1928, the neoclassical landmark is one of the iconic building in Singapore. The then Singapore’s General Post Office was converted to a hotel with over 400 luxury room. Today, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore is one of the most luxurious hotels in Singapore. With more than 6000 reviews on google review, we plan to save it for one of our anniversaries

Situated along the bank of Singapore River, the hotel is a stone throw away to many attractions by foot. Located next to Raffles Place MRT station, it offers great accessibility to various part of Singapore.

With COVID travel ban and hectic workload, I’ve decided to book a last-minute staycation to surprise H. As I was going through a list of hotels one day before, I decide to go with The Fullerton Hotel as it was on his list to experience and considering the last-minute booking, there isn’t a price surge.

Premier Courtyard Room

The 42sqm Premier Courtyard Room offers ample of space despite being the most basic room. The newly refurbished room is tastefully designed with wall motif with wood finishes. Making the ambience of the room stylish and cosy. Plus, the room came with a day-bed or cushion allowing one to relax.

Tip: Do request for a refurbished room as the old room looks pretty dull.

On the downside, the Premier Courtyard Room faces the atrium. One has to keep the curtain down at all time and you live in your own world. Weather check is not possible and one has to walk to the lift lobby to see if it’s raining. Sadly, we didn’t manage to upgrade as refurbished rooms with a view were sold out.

If views are important, do book the Quay room from the website instead of checking in at the counter during peak period.

The Bedroom

Unlike the old room, the bedframe was refreshed in the refurbished room. The bed was huge and comfortable but the pillow is too soft. Pillow menu is available for those who prefer firm pillows. Sadly, I was too lazy to request one at 1am. Bed linen is soft and clean, keeping me warm at night. Universal Charging outlet available at both of the bedsides.

The Bath
The bathroom came with a bathtub and a standing shower area which I thought is a pretty decent size for the most basic room. Toiletries are from Atkinsons and they are available for sale at the lobby.  Love the light and not overpowering scent it offers.

Also, the toilet bowl was installed with a TOTO washlet that comes with heated seat a seats and control panel mounted on the wall. Sadly, it doesn’t come with auto flushing and it auto-clean throughout the night which makes it annoying with a constant beeping sound. To add on, the design of the bathroom looks really old and tiles are turning yellowish. To make things worse, we found a new bath towel with a blood spot.

Breakfast
We had our breakfast at Town restaurant and was given the timeslot to choose. We selected the 8:30 – 9:30 am, right after our morning dip at the pool. Instead of buffet-style breakfast, breakfast was served in ala-cart style.

One can have unlimited serving but must finish it in the 1-hour seating. Local delight is better than expected. Nasi Lemak rice is fragrant and chilli is a nice combination between sweet-spicy. Laska has a distinct coconut taste yet it does not overpower the spice. Quality Siew Mai is served too!

Sadly, the pancakes are fluffy but the icing on top of the pancake ruined everything. Bacon is over-cooked, making it dry and brittle.

Tip: Go for the outdoor seating! The view of the quay is beautiful and the morning breeze is very relaxing.

Facilities

H & I stop going for a swim during our many of our staycation because the pool is either too old or small to chill. But the one at Fullerton Hotel is definitely the highlight. With a panoramic view of CBD and bridges, we found ourselves spent our morning chilling at the pool! Staycation during the covid period has its perks too. Timeslot system ensures that the pool is not over-crowded.

The gym was fully booked when we visited in the morning. Due to social distancing, one has to keep 1 meter apart. Equipment is separated by a full-height divider or alternate machines place to keep the distance apart.

Dining
There’s a decent range of dining option in the hotel - Jade, Town Restaurant, The Landing Point & The Courtyard. The most popular dining option would be dining at Jade, a Cantonese restaurant that serves delicious dim sum food. High tea at the lobby is available for those who with a sweet tooth. I’ve visited the lobby for high tea some time back.  It is pretty decent if you dine with a standard charter promotion that offers 50% off.  Otherwise, I thought it’s good that you save your money and have high tea elsewhere as there are many dining options available in that vicinity

Overall

The highlight of the stay is definitely the pool experience! Hotel staff are friendly but there was no personal touch. Also, due to its large scale, I find the hotel to be very crowded at all times. There were definitely hit and misses during our stay. To be exact, it wasn't a 5-star experience. The stay in the Fullerton Hotel is decent but I doubt I will be back any time soon.
