Review: Grand Mercure Lake Hamana Resort & Spa – A Tranquil Lakeside Retreat in Hamamatsu

Nestled on the shores of Lake Hamana, the Grand Mercure Lake Hamana Resort & Spa offers a serene escape for families, couples, and wellness seekers. Previously part of the Daiwa Resort group, the property has recently undergone a thoughtful transformation under a new partnership between Accor and Ebisu Resort, marking Accor’s expanding footprint in Japan. This rebranding effort brings a refreshed concept and more international tourist to the hotel.

Getting there

We drove 2.5 hours (without toll) / 1.5 hours with toll from Nagoya airport to the resort and did multiple stopover at various restaurants and cafes. Free onsite parking for guest staying in the hotel

The resort offers free shuttle service from Maisaka JR station South train station. Do check out the updated timing with the hotel. Alternatively, one can take a 30 min taxi from JR Hamamatsu Station.

Standard Twin Room

Check in was fuss free as the hotel and we have gotten our keys within minutes. Prior to the trip, the hotel concierge had emailed and made the necessary confirmation with us.

We booked the classic room and was upgraded to stay in a Standard Twin Room, which was clean and bright. It came with a lake-view and fortunately our room was very spacious. However, the room design is dated and had a musky smell. The onsen features both indoor and outdoor baths which was a relaxing break for us.

Lounge

Located on the 13th floor of the top floor, the lounge overlooks the vast Hamanako. We were given lounge access during our stay and it was definitely a plus point! Happy hours from 9pm to 11pm! Definitely a great deal for guest who loves to drink!

Dining and Facilities

Our stay includes dinner and breakfast buffet. Both meals offers a wide range  of Japanese and Western dishes, including fruit, grilled fish, pastries, and child-friendly options. The dining area is spacious, with high chairs and attentive service. Unfortunately, the quality of food is mediocre.

Nearby Family-Friendly Attractions

This resort is ideally located for exploring Lake Hamana’s best spots:

  • Hamamatsu Flower Park – A must-visit for families, just 5 minutes away by car.
  • Kanzanji Ropeway & Temple – Offers panoramic lake views and a peaceful cultural experience.
  • Lake Hamana Sightseeing Cruise – A relaxing way to see the lake with young children.
  • Hamanako Palpal – A lakeside amusement park that’s perfect for toddlers and located right next to the hotel.

Final Thoughts

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the resort. Despite room being dated, the service and scenic setting won us over. Grand Mercure Lake Hamana Resort & Spa is a great stop for travelers exploring central Japan.
