Thailand: Bangkok MUST EAT (or NOT?)

My recent visit to bangkok was nothing but a food trip. It is kind of amazing how much food my stoamach can take in one day. Some are definitely worth going again but others are ready to be off my list forever. #makeeverycaloriesworth

Inter Restaurant
Highly rave by many bloggers and we have to check it out for sure. It is top on my list because it is strategically located near Siam BTS. Be there early before the long queue start to form! We were their first group of diner and soon enough the restaurant are filled with others.

We ordered a table filled with local food such as Tom Yam Kong, Stir Fried Morning Glory, Deep fried Egg, Roast Pork, Pad-Thai, Green curry and Minced meat. To be honest, it is easily my favorite restaurant in BKK at the moment. Not only it is good, it is very affordable. Around 800b for everything. I love the roast pork (Charsiew) and honestly think that I can finish a whole plate by myself even though the serving is not big. & the downside, yes the portion are not huge. Every portion is enough to feed 4-5 people.

Verdict? Yes, defintely worth a visit! Head over to Inter restaurant before you start your shopping spree.

T&K Restaurant
T&K restaurant aka the staff who wear green polo shirt, is another popular restaurant that I was introduced to by my friends. Located in Chinatown, this is one restaurant that many will not miss. . Again, be there early if not be prepare to wait. We head over at 6.30 pm and manage to get a seat. Before we left, there were long queue of diners waiting.

Since it was a seafood restaurant, we ordered salted Stir Fried Morning Glory, Thai Grilled Fish (Pla Pao), chilli cockles, sharkfin and etc. Definitely a table filled with delicious thai food. I love the Salted grilled fish (Pla pao)! The fish was covered with salt (make sure you don’t eat the skin) and the meat was fresh and tender! I thought it was better than the one I had last time! The rest of the dishes were pretty mediocre.

I notice that there were not much local patroning the restaurant. Well I guess, they must be pretty turn off by the queue and head over to other place with shorter queue and equivalent standard.

Verdict? Yes it is good! However I am not too sure if I will queue for hours for this.

ISAO Japanese restaurant
ISAO, a popular Japanese restaurant even with locals, has won the heart of many with their unique roll. We called and the reservations were almost full. With sushi rolls name from Jackie to Dragon and quirky look, there is no reason why it is not popular with youngster (Instagram worthy).

We ordered a couple of sushi roll and guess what, I think I am the only person who likes them while the rest find the rolls over-rated. I love the Sushi Sandwich! Not a fan of tuna but I think that they are the best Tuna and Salmon combination I ever had. Spicy tuna and salmon are stuffed in between layers of sushi rice. To top it off, the tempura batter on the outer layer made it so crispy and delicious!

Other than sushi sandwich, we ordered Jackie roll, Dragon roll as well as maki roll which were pretty mediocre. Well, quality food comes with a price tag. A few rolls and it is easily top as the most expensive meal for the entire trip.

Verdit? Maybe? I would love to return for sushi sandwich but the rest are pretty normal. & the rest find it over rated.

Sabx2 Pratunum Wanton Mee aka Popular Wanton Mee (Opposite Platinum Mall)
Way before I travel to BKK, I have heard of the “Famous Wonton Mee” that Singaporeans will go. So I was pretty excited when one of my friend suggest to go over for “high tea”. Even before we reach the restaurant, there were banners “No outlet in Singapore” hanging on the streets, which made things seems a little more interesting.

The bowl was huge but portion was really small. After having a few mouthful of the noodle, I couldn’t understand the hype over the noodle. Yes, it is definitely more flavorful than the ones we bought in Hawker center because they add more pork lard into the noodle. Other than that, it was nothing special.

Verdit? Sorry nope, I will not go back for that. I can have better wanton mee below my block.

After You Café
I’ve mention this before and I will repeat again. After you Café is no doubt my favorite café in Bangkok. Some may find it overly-sweet but I love it! I love the classic shibuya toast! The maple syrup that drizzle over the thick toast! They taste so heavenly!

Ordered caramel candy panna cotta and it failed to surprise me. Nonetheless, I’m really happy that After You café are branching out & this means less waiting time. Yay!

Verdit? 100% YES! I will squeeze time slot for this.

Audrey Pettie Café
Instagram facmous Thai-Ice Tea crepe cake is at the second of my to-try list this time round. With its beautiful interior design, it is by no surprise they start up Audrey group, a company that sells furniture.

Ordered their famous Crepe cake for dessert and find it pretty average. Personally I still prefer Malacca’s Nadeje to this but I must say that the thai-ice tea crepe cake is pretty unique on its own. Not overly-sweet and the crepe were soft, it is by no surprise it has won the heart of many.

Verdit? Nope, I won’t be back for this. There are too many alternative cafe in Bangkok.

 Roast
Another popular café located along the streets in Thong lor, roast is the upcoming hippest café in town for coffee lovers. Not only they have won the national barista competition in 2012, they are second home to many coffee lovers.

With the interesting-looking Iced Espresso Latte, which is very popular in instagram. They fill your cup of Ice-cube espresso with cold milk! Now we can DIY honey drink they same way! Not a coffee person but I ordered this. Personally I think the coffee is too rich for me and the ice espresso doesn’t seems to melt.

Other than the coffee, we ordered signature roast tea, hand made sweet potato fries and strawberry waffle. Everything sound pretty legit intially. Strawberry waffle was a little too sweet. Plus i prefer waffle with ice cream instead of whip cream. Three days spend to make the sweet potato fries and etc. However we find the food pretty average.

Verdict? Maybe a second chance? The brunch menu looks pretty good.

Eat Sight Story

H saw this place and was recommended by Trip advisor as one of the best place to visit after our visit to Wat Arun. With high rating from trip advisor, we were expecting something nice from this western-thai fusion restaurant.

Sadly, it is one of the most over rated restaurant. Not only it was expensive, the food are far from being average. The grilled pork prepared was overly cooked, making the meat hard to chew on. Thai Basil Pork (Pad Kra Pao Moo) was also a disappointment.

Verdict? Although the ambience is nice but I doubt I will be back.

Pastel Éclair

Saw them while I was researching for must-eat food in bkk and these pretty looking éclair stole my heart away. Although the match crème is rich, the texture of the éclair was rough and kind of hard. I prefer the ones which are moist and soft.

Verdict? Nope, I won’t be back.

Mae Varee Fruit Shop

I’ll save the best for the last. This is the best Mango sticky rice in Bangkok! Even the local agrees! Located near Thong Lor BTS, it is just a minute walk. The Mango are super sweet and goes really well with the sticky rice. The downside, they are kind of expensive.

Verdict? Yes I will be back!
