Seoul - Mangwon Market 망원시장 - Updated 2022

Located in the Map area, Mangwon Market 망원시장 is a popular traditional market among the locals. The market not only carries a wide range of products but they are also reasonably priced too! From local fresh produce to traditional snacks, this large-scale market is there to serve the densely populated neighborhood.

During our recent trip to Seoul, we brought our parents to Mangwon market and had a good time there. From Korean strawberries to chestnuts, she was choosing them with excitement. We spent some time in the market and went home with bags of trophies from the market. 

Tip: The price of fresh fruits is very competitive in the market. Head out of the market for good deals!

In addition, you can find local snacks at every corner of the market. We tried the kimbap outside the market and it was superb! Unlike the ones in the market, the kimbap was freshly made by order! With the generous serving size and quality ingredients used, it was one of the better ones. Sadly, we didn’t manage to try all the snacks in the market as we had a late breakfast. But we will be back for sure!

After our trip to the market, we visited the café for a short break. There are several cafes in Mangwon market but we decide to visit our favorite café – Believer Café in Seoul. To be honest, there are many cafes but we only revisit the ones that are worth the money and calories. & Believer Café is definitely one of them.

Update 2022:

Although we didn't try much street food when we first visited Mangwon Market in 2019 ( It was the start of the pandemic), we returned in 2022 to get our hands on the food we missed previously. 

Croquette and Doughnut 

This freshly fried bun tastes a little like a doughnut but better because it's soft and very flavorful! The shop located right at the entrance of the market and you won't miss it! 

Grilled Pork Patty

This huge pork patty is worth every calorie! It is estimated to be 200g each and sold in a tray of 5. The patty is juicy and very flavorful! It is prepared in batches and each batch is sold out very fast when ready.  We brought it back to our hotel and have it for breakfast the next day and it is equally good!  

Fried Chicken 

 

This Korean fried chicken comes in many flavors - sweet and sour, spicy and etc. Love the tteokbokki hat that comes with it! It was delicious but too much for 2 people. 

Hotteok 

Hotteok is a must-order whenever we see one! Probably one of the least oily Hotteok we had! 

Traditional Biscuit 

This traditional biscuit is one of my favourite. We bought it on our previous trip and came back for more!
