Nippondaira Hotel – Mt. Fuji Views and Timeless Tranquility in Shizuoka

Located on the the scenic ridge of Shizuoka, Nippondaira Hotel is one of those rare places where timeless elegance meets jaw-dropping natural beauty. With uninterrupted views of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay, this hotel offers a quiet escape that blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort—perfect for couples, families, or anyone looking to slow down and soak up Japan’s serenity.

The moment we stepped into the minimalist, light-filled lobby, our eyes were instantly drawn to the massive floor-to-ceiling windows. Majestic and peaceful, framed by manicured gardens and a clear blue sky. Whether you're sipping tea in the hotel lounge or enjoying breakfast, the iconic peak is always part of the backdrop.

The check-in was seamless. The atmosphere is calm, quiet, and distinctly refined—more ryokan-like than your typical hotel. One of my favourite part of the hotel is enjoying the display of Bonsai plant in the hotel. They are very well maintained!

We stayed in a Western-style room with a Mt. Fuji view, and it didn’t disappoint. The room was spacious with large windows that framed the mountain like a painting. The décor was understated, with natural tones and clean lines.

The bathroom was modern and luxurious! A little pity that there are no onsen in the hotel. They made up with it by offering a bigger bathroom with a deep soaking tub!

Highly recommend to book the rooms with Mt Fuji View as they are slightly newer compared to the standard smoking room.  Even on bad weather, the view of Suruga Bay is equally stunning!

The hotel’s Japanese restaurant, Washoku Shimizu, offers seasonal kaiseki meals that are as artful as they are delicious. Every dish—from the local sashimi to the delicate tempura—was beautifully presented, showcasing ingredients from the surrounding region.

There’s also a Western restaurant, The Terrace, which serves a buffet breakfast and afternoon tea. Dining here while overlooking Mt. Fuji is an experience in itself.

We booked half board and the room includes dinner. We choose the japanese restaurant for both our dinner and breakfast as it offers a more unique experience. There are two sitting available. I highly recommend you to choose the earlier slot as you can to enjoy the view!

If you are not planning to have dinner in the restaurant, do have an early dinner as the drive up to the hotel is pretty dark at night.
