Getting from Shen Zhen Airport to Shen Zhen Hotel

We caught night flight Singapore to Shenzhen and arrived around 1.30am. We took around 45 minutes to clear the custom and collect our baggage. After clearing the custom, we booked a didi private car to our hotel. Although we did save some money but definitely not the best option at this hour. We had to wait in the crowd and identify our car. Highly recommend to prebook private airport transfer if you are travelling with a kid!

Getting around in Shen Zhen

Getting around Shenzhen is efficient with its public transport. The city’s transport network designed to be accessible for international visitors, with most signs and announcements in both Mandarin and English.

The commonly used method is via Didi. We use Didi to get around Shen Zhen! There are different type of rides available from basic to premium! Y vomited in one of the basic car as the driver skill was pretty bad plus bad smells and driver was even watch livestreams. We book the mid-tier car from then on! The rides are quiet, car are cleaner and more comfortable!

Alternatively, one can consider to take the metro during peak period! The fares are distance-based, typically ranging from ¥2 to ¥14. Take note before to take the metro, there will be a security that requires you to take out liquid items. Payment via Wechat mini app or you can purchase the ticket at the counter. Most entrance are accessible via escalator.

Travel Insurance

When planning a family getaway, travel insurance is the one "itinerary item" you hope never to use, but should never leave without. We personally choose to browse and buy our coverage through SingSaver because it allows us to compare the coverage. Plus, they even have flash deal and promotion every time

Day 1: Ancient Gates to Futuristic Tech

We start our day with a simple hotel breakfast and head over to Nantou Old Town (南头古城), a historic walled city transformed into a hip design hub. It’s the perfect spot for photos against ancient gates and modern murals. Afterward, we visited Z.Pilot and we were really impress with the experience! We were able to explore the shop and try different product without the stress. Y was able to try kids product with technology such as interactive soft toy and camera

In the late afternoon, we visited Xie San Bao (蟹三寶), a Shanghainese-style chain restaurant for their famous crab roe noodles. It so good! Perfect for crab lover! They are individual set, perfect for single traveller too!

Then we explore Shenzhen Bay MixC (深圳湾万象城), Shenzhen’s tech! Do not forget to stop by the Bambu Lab flagship to see the latest in 3D printing.

As evening falls, take a stroll through Shenzhen Talent Park (深圳人才公園) to see the skyline light up as well as experiencing ordering food via drone. Y had fun running around the park and had fun at the open space playground

Ended our day with a comforting, savory meal at Gu Hua Chicken Pot (古华鸡煲). It was a cantonese style hotpot with herbal broth. We love a hearty bowl of soup on a cold day! Perfect meal to end the night!

Day 2: Robots and Street Eats

Started our morning with a classic Cantonese breakfast at Hong Li Cun (红荔村), famous for their silky rice noodle rolls (Chee Cheong Fun). Despite being a chain restaurant, we love it so much we visited twice! Simple and no frill breakfast! And also because it is just below our hotel!

Afterward, we visited 6S Robot Store, where you can interact with the latest consumer robotics. There are various type of robot showcase in 6S Robot store. Unfortunately, the experience there wasn’t great. It was small and crowded. Despite paying for an entrance fee, most of the Robot was not working and requires a staff assistant or at a separate charge.

In the afternoon, we grab a caffeine fix at Peet’s Coffee before heading to the bustling Dongmen Pedestrian Street (东门步行街). The coffee chain can be found almost everywhere in Shen Zhen. Cake was a little too sweet but they serve pretty good canele!

Dongmen is a shopping maze—perfect for finding budget-friendly fashion and street snacks like grilled squid and stinky tofu. It was very crowded! Highly recommend you to have an early dinner! We had ours at random Cantonese restaurant away from the crowd.
It was crowded in Dong men and almost every restaurant is fully packed! We finally found one quiet dims restaurant away from the crowd. They serve pretty good cantonese cuisine and the service was good too! If you are planning to have dinner in Dongmen, do head over early and avoid the peak hour!

Day 3: Playtime & Signature Steamboat
Started our day with an elegant brunch at Tao Tao Ju (陶陶居), one of the most famous names in Cantonese dim sum. The dumplings and bao is good! Unfortunately, i prefer other version of youtiao instead of theirs. It was too thick and oily for us!

In the afternoon, we visited Nickelodeon Playtime in Shenzhen, a dream come true for Y. We spent close to 4 hours at the playground! Although I find the play area quite simple, it was sufficient for my 3 year old! There’s even a meet and greet session!

Afterward, we continued shopping at one of the nearby mega-complexes. We had an early  dinner at 小火璽 -  Coconut Chicken Steamboat (椰子鸡)—a Shenzhen specialty where fresh chicken is cooked in sweet coconut water for a light, healthy, and delicious meal.

It taste a little weird to us because it feels like having Bubur cha cha with steam chicken! Service was top notch! This restaurant was shortlisted for the prestigious Meituan Diamond award in 2022

Day 4: Exploration & Fresh Seafood

In the morning , we enjoy a traditional dim sum breakfast at Fan Lou (蘩楼), known for its classic tea house atmosphere. The food was amazing and definitely worth the hype! Do avoid weekend and head early! We arrived at 1030am and the queue was forming!

Afterward, we proceed to Children’s Discovery Museum (儿童探索馆), another highlight for Y. This vibrant, colorful building is filled with interactive exhibits designed for kids to learn through play. We spent 2 hours there and exploring different roles!

In the evening, visit Hema Fresh (盒马鲜生) for dinner. Unlike other Hema Fresh experience, the store we visited only allow cooking option for crab. Nonetheless, there were cooked option for us to choose from! We finish the night with some last-minute shopping at Fuchun Mall.

Day 5: Hua Qiang Bei & Final Feast

Had a final round of Hong Li Cun rice rolls before heading to the legendary Huaqiangbei (华强北). This is the world’s largest electronics market—even if you aren't buying components, the sheer scale of the gadget markets is a sight to behold.

For our final meal before heading to the airport, return to Tao Tao Ju (陶陶居) to fill up on our favorite dim sum dishes and seafood! Overall, we love our trip in Shen Zhen! It felt very clean and safe for the little one! Plus, there were many first tech experience for Y to explore! Can't wait to explore more places in China with Y!
