Mount Austin, often referred to as the cafe area of Johor Bahru, is a bustling lifestyle and food enclave located just 15 to 20 minutes from the Singapore border. Once a quiet residential neighborhood, it has transformed into the city’s trendiest hub for youth and foodies alike.

Slow Day Cafe 

This cafe is a sanctuary for matcha lovers and art enthusiasts. It is highly popular for its minimalist, "industrial-meets-desert" aesthetic and its dual-concept space that hosts art jamming workshops. The vibe encourages you to slow down and enjoy the craftsmanship in both the food and the atmosphere.


Highlight was the matcha nama cake! There are three different layer of texture used, making the cake rich in flavour but not too sweet!

初中一校 High School Kopitiam

Stepping into this restaurant feels like entering a Taiwanese classroom, complete with wooden school desks, chalkboards, and nostalgic decor. It is popular for its creative fusion of Taiwanese street food and Malaysian kopitiam staples, making it a favorite for themed photography and casual brunching.


The High School Pork Chop Sandwich served with Charcoal Toast. This IG-worthy sando is packed with a juicy deep-fried pork chop, fried egg, and cheese, creating a perfect contrast against the jet-black bread.

Mamasita Mexican Restaurant 


Known for its high-energy atmosphere and vibrant decor (often featuring neon lights and live music), Mamasita is the go-to spot in Austin for authentic Mexican flavors. It’s popular for group gatherings and "Taco Tuesdays," offering a festive environment that stands out from the typical cafe scene.


The Birria Beef Tacos or the Quesadilla Carne. The beef is slow-cooked to tender perfection and served with a flavorful consommé for dipping. We ordered the fish taco and it was tasty too!

Good Husband Patisserie  

If you are cafe-hopping in Johor Bahru, Good Husband Patisserie is a must-visit destination for dessert lovers. This charming café specializes in exquisite French- and Japanese-inspired artisan cakes and pastries.


We were introduced to this patisserie by a friend and fell in love with its swiss roll. Tried a few flavour and passion mango was our favourite! Do note that they have one flavour each for sale . Thus highly recommend to order in advance.


We did a a walk in on a Thursday afternoon and ordered several cakes and Viennoiserie to share. They did not disappoint! Love the savoury truffle mushroom. Although the cafe is on a pricer side, the environment was clean and comfortable.  Service was good too! The staff was constantly checking on us and if require and refill of water.
